  • Junior group

    (7-12 years old)

1st ROUND

Two pieces of different character:

  • Cantilena
  • Piece by the choice of participant
  • Duration should be no longer than 10 minutes.

2nd ROUND

Program by the choice of participant.

  • Duration should be no longer than 10 minutes.

  • Middle group

    (13-17 years old)

1st ROUND

  1. Baroque piece (solo or arrangement for saxophone and piano).
  2. Piece written by Russian composer.
  • Duration should be no longer than 15 minutes.
  • 6 participants will pass to second round.

2nd ROUND

Piece of large form.

  • Duration should be no longer than 15 minutes.

  • Senior group

    (18-27 years old)

1st ROUND

  • Baroque piece (arrangement for saxophone solo or saxophone and piano).
  • Piece by the choice of participant.
  • Duration should be no longer than 20 minutes.
  • 6 participants will pass to second round.

2nd ROUND

  1. One of the following pieces by the choice of participant:
    Debussy – Rhapsodie
    Kaple – Legend
    Schmitt – Legend
    Martin – Ballade
  2. Piece written by modern composer (solo or for saxophone and piano).
  • Duration should be no longer than 20 minutes.
  • 3 participants will pass to second round.

3rd ROUND

  1. Iber – Concertino da camera or Villa-Lobos – Fantasia.
  2. Piece of virtuosic character (solo or for saxophone and piano).
JAZZ SAXOPHONE

1st ROUND (via recordings)

2 pieces of different character and tempo (original arrangement is preferred):

  1. Ballade (slow) or piece with medium tempo (medium swing, bounce tempo, medium bossa or Latin).
  2. Piece with medium tempo or piece with fast tempo (Fast Tempo or Medium Fast Tempo).

Style is optional: swing, be bop, hard bop, funk, jazz roc, Latin etc.
Participant should provide their recording (audio or video) which is no longer than 15-20 minutes.

2nd ROUND

2 pieces with rhythm-section:

  1. One piece by choice of participant from following:
    1. Cherokee (R. Noble)
    2. I’ll Remember April (D. Raye — G. DePaul)
    3. But Not For Me (G.Gershwin), Harmony Version by John Coltrane
    4. Lester Left Town (W.Shorter)
    5. Ornithology (B. Harris — Ch. Parker)
    6. Confirmation (Ch. Parker)
    7. Three And One (Th. Jones)
    8. Un Poco Loco (B. PoweI)
    9. Giant Steps (J. Coftrane)
    10. I Can’t Get Started (V. Duke)
  2. Piece or arrangement of a song written by Russian (soviet) composer: (Hrennikov, Shostakovich, Dunaevsky, Chugunov, Saulsky, Levinovsky, Osejchuk, Bril, Kozlov, Garanyan etc). The tempo should be contrary to the tempo of 1st piece.
  • Duration should be no longer than 25 minutes.

3rd ROUND

2 pieces accompanied by rhythm-section:

  1. Author’s piece or original arrangement of jazz standard (instrumental piece of modern jazz).
  2. One piece from the following which will be chosen by toss before performance:
    1. 26-2 (J. Coltrane)
    2. Donna Lee (Ch. Parker)
    3. Nica’s Dream (H. Silver)
    4. I Thought About You (J. Van Heusen)
    5. any theme by choice of participant on the harmonic scheme Rhythm Changes.
  • Duration should be no longer than 25 minutes.

Program of 2nd and 3rd rounds should be performed by memory.
Repetition of pieces from 1st round is prohibited.

SAXOPHONE ENSEMBLE

  • Junior group

    (7-12 years old)

2 pieces of different character (without accompaniment)

  • Middle group

    (13-17 years old)

2 pieces of different character (without accompaniment)

  • Senior group

    (18-27 years old)

Any program (not longer than 20 minutes).
